Chelcia Nemec is a Board-Certified Art Therapist- Supervisor, Clinical Counselor, Sandtray Therapist and Adjunct Professor at the University of Louisville. She has been working with people with disabilities since 2006. For almost a decade, she created and directed the art program at a residential facility for nearly 100 adults with various intellectual and developmental disabilities. She learned quickly that manufactured adaptive equipment was expensive and not easily accessible, so she began modifying her own tools with common and inexpensive materials. Since 2020 she has been a recurring guest-lecturer at the University of Louisville in Kentucky, teaching budding Art Therapists how to adapt various materials to meet the needs of their potential future clients. In the beginning of 2022, she began part-time lecturing at the University of Louisville in addition to guest-lecturing. When her Sandtray Therapy journey began, Chelcia saw the need for certain modifications with her own clients and has been able to adapt the tools and techniques from her previous experience to suit their needs in the tray.
