Good morning!
Of all the super amazing aspects Claudia & I got to talk through, my favorite favorite part was getting to hear her take on culture humility within our role as therapists.
In review of what she said, culture humility & competence are two separate things -
1.) Culture Competence is what we DO know
2.) Culture Humility is what we DON'T know & being ok with that truth
You & I both are fully aware of all the struggles and difficulties that come with our job.
Sometimes it feels like we don't know enough or like we're not qualified enough.
Those thoughts & feelings are real, but what's so amazing is the culture humility that we can learn and be in a space where we know it's ok to not know it all!
You, as the therapist, know your stuff!! Your client knows themselves!!
What a beautiful place to be in - working with each other's knowledge to produce healthy processing AND healing!
I love how Claudia also mentions the importance for us to not have an agenda within our sessions. Compassion flows and agendas rise, and it's part of our job to put them away so the client has their full safe space.
Claudia & I challenge you to reflect on this this week and create your own personal sandtray.
Clean off your mirror and take care of yourself, so you can continue to do so for your clients!
Talk soon,
Amy
P.S. Claudia gave a shout out to Marshall Lyles who has an awesome video on EMDR + Sandtray on Youtube. Give it a watch!
